According to researchers from the National Institutes of Health, keeping well hydrated on a regular basis is associated with a lower heart failure risk.  The researchers published their findings in the European Heart Journal

What they published was that by consistently remaining hydrated every day throughout life, an individual can lower heart failure risk.  In fact, this practice can help to ensure overall essential body functioning as well as overall improvement to the chances of suffering severe heart problems of other forms.

Heart failure is a chronic condition that occurs when the organ is no longer pumping adequate blood to meet the needs of the body. It affects over 6.2 million Americans – just over 2 percent of the US population.  It is most common among people over the age of 65 years.

Staying Hydrated Helps to Support the Prevention of this Kind of Disease

As is the case with reducing the amount of salt consumed each day, drinking enough water and making sure we stay hydrated also provides the cardiovascular system with important, meaningful support in being able to lower heart failure risk over the long term, according to the study’s lead author, Natalia Dmitrieva, PhD. Dr. Dmitrieva is a researcher at the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Regenerative Medicine at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), which is a part of NIH.

The study was an analysis of data from more than 15,000 adults aged 45 to 66 years who had enrolled in the 1987-1989 Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study and who had shared their medical visit data across a period of 25 years.
