This holiday season, your ability to keep your weight under control is in your own hands. It’s hard to believe, especially if you’ve failed to do so over the last few holiday seasons. However, as long as you know what you’re doing and you take the right precautions, you’ll have everything you need to resist what you shouldn’t have and enjoy what you should. Unlike what you are likely told on a regular basis, this is not just a matter of having enough willpower. Willpower is great to have, but if that’s all you’re relying on, you’re doomed to run into problems when you face a massive spread of your favorite holiday treats and a lot of people who are important to you and who insist that you take part. Even if you manage to get through it once, the odds are that you’ll only face it again and again over the next couple of months. Use the following life hacks to make sure you’re armed with the right techniques to control your weight this holiday season: • Consider treats to be a treat – You’re allowed to enjoy some holiday treats this year. It’s great to be able to enjoy some of your favorites as a part of the traditions. However, there is a difference between gorging on everything you can get your hands on, and being selective and treating yourself to something rare and special. If you love eggnog or if you think there isn’t anything better than pumpkin pie, don’t eat desserts offered to you at work in the break room, when you visit friends on the way home from work or at every dinner you visit. Instead, choose when you’ll have the ones you love the most.
• Have a bite or two and that’s all – When you do have a treat to enjoy, you don’t need to have an overwhelming amount of it. You can have a bite or two and that’s all you need. Once you have a taste or two, you’ve experienced the majority of the enjoyment. Anything after that point is gluttony.
• Flex muscles and feel powerful – A simple little trick can help you to make the right decision when it comes to keeping up your workout schedule or choosing the right foods. Flex your muscles. This doesn’t mean that you need to strike a number of bodybuilding poses. Instead, tighten your muscles and hold them before releasing them. Doing this can help you to feel stronger, more powerful and able to overcome the temptation to overeat or to cancel your workout.
