Well, it turns out that your morning cup of java might be doing more than just giving you a pep in your step. Recent studies are showing how coffee may reduce the risk of endometrial cancer by a pretty significant margin. In fact, the popular hot beverage is now being hailed as one of the best choices for a variety of people with different health concerns, from obesity and chronic fatigue to diabetes and metabolic syndrome. But before you can really benefit from the goodness of coffee, you will need to know why it works so well and exactly how it is linked to the fight against this female cancer.
What Is Endometrial Cancer and What Causes It?
Okay, so you have warmed up to the idea that drinking coffee helps to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer, but do you even know what you are battling? Understanding the issue is the first step towards avoiding it altogether if possible. Simply put, endometrial cancer is a serious and cancerous condition that roots itself in the endometrium—a part of the uterus that makes up the delicate inner lining sometimes referred to as the womb. Without proper testing and/or subsequent treatment, the cancer can become life-threatening or make childbearing an impossibility.
How Does Coffee Reduce the Risk?
Despite scientists’ best efforts to explain the phenomenon, it seems as though nobody can attest to the true reason behind coffee’s ability to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer. Some experts speculate that the cause of this benefit lies within the way coffee balances estrogen levels in a woman’s body. Regardless of why it works, recent studies have shown how drinking just 26 to 36 ounces of coffee each day can make a hugely positive impact on the female reproductive system, reducing the risk of endometrial cancer by as much as 18 percent.
What Are Doctors Saying about This?
As it stands, researchers and doctors are just as baffled by the news as the average person, although most of the experts have strong opinions about what they are hearing. After testing more than 450,000 women in a single study, not many of those opinions are differing from one another. The American Cancer Society even chimed in, saying that the balancing act provided by coffee can drastically reduce the risk of endometrial cancer in most women. Talk to your doctor for more information, especially if you have specific questions or health concerns.
