It may be the source of many pregnancy-related jokes, but can a man actually suffer from sympathy pains during pregnancy? So many women feel frustrated or even find a bit of humor in the way that their man conducts himself during pregnancy. Though a woman goes through the bulk of physical symptoms and emotions during pregnancy, sometimes a man may have his own way of coping. Though they aren’t often taken seriously, they can be something to consider. Men may have their own ways of preparing for the baby, and this may in fact take the form of sympathy pains and other “symptoms.”
One of the most obvious such issues for men, other than sympathy pains during pregnancy, is weight gain. Obviously, a woman needs to gain weight during pregnancy to ensure her best health and that of the baby. A lot of men tend to gain weight as well, though, which may be a result of eating alongside the mother-to-be. You may notice that the man gains a lot of belly fat, as that’s the easiest place for fat to accumulate. Eating can also be a coping mechanism for some men as they try to prepare mentally for a baby’s arrival. Many men may mask their emotions by eating, though this can be somewhat annoying to a woman.
Is He For Real or Is It Perceived?
Sympathy pains during pregnancy can mimic what the woman is experiencing. A man may perceive that his back hurts or that he feels nausea, or even that he has swelling or headaches. Some of this is definitely perception while some of it may be real to an extent. He may be experiencing all of these things alongside the woman and therefore convinced that he is sharing her symptoms. There may be some legitimacy to this, but it may also be exaggerated or somewhat overblown. Either way, sympathy pains are common; and if they become a persistent concern for a man, then he should be seen by a doctor.
One of the most noticeable times when a man shows sympathy pains during pregnancy is during labor and delivery. As a woman is experiencing so much pain and emotion, a man may not know how to cope. Many men feel pain, faintness, or a sense of being overwhelmed during this challenging and exciting phase. Though a woman may feel frustration at this, a man may not be able to help the involuntary pangs of pain This may be due to sympathy or his inability to cope with the situation at hand. In any case, these sensations are very real to a man, so a woman should expect them to manifest during this important time in a couple’s life together.
