DecaSlim is yet another diet pill that claims to contain 10 “superfoods”. According to the advertising, taking DecaSlim will give you “fast weight loss”, “acne relief” and “tone lean muscle”.
I have to begin this review of DecaSlim diet pills by pointing out that there are at least two other diet pills that contain 10 “superfoods” (Orovo and Lipovox). Of these, the biggest surprise came when I visited the official website for Lipovox and noticed that the advertising, promotional story and all, is almost exactly the same as DecaSlim. Obviously the advertising for both these products is a complete lie – a fabrication just to sell some poor, unsuspecting person a crappy product. For anyone thinking about buying DecaSlim, you really need to read any further. Experience dictates that if the advertising is lie, so are their claims about how the product will help you lose weight. So, right away you should know that DecaSlim is a diet pill best avoided.
Just for curiosity’s sake, let’s take a look at the ingredients contained in DecaSlim diet pills. DecaSlim contains 10 ingredients, of which 8 are patented (by the way, a patent does not guarantee the product works or has been properly tested to support its claims). The ingredients in DecaSlim include: green tea, safflower oil, fiber, blueberries, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, flaxseed, garlic and resveratrol. Let’s take a closer look at each ingredient.
Review of DecaSlim Ingredients
- Green Tea - Green tea does have some proven benefits for weight loss. Of course, to reap these benefits you need to consume enough of the stuff and since DecaSlim does not provide actual ingredient amounts it is impossible to say if the amount of green tea present will be effective.
- Safflower Oil - Safflower oil is added to DecaSlim because it is a good source of CLA, otherwise known as conjugated linoleic acid. CLA, which is a member of the omega-6’s, helps to increase lean muscle mass and decrease body fat and these claims are supported by published clinical studies. Studies have found that benefits of CLA can be seen when 3-4 grams, or one teaspoon, is taken daily. Again, since the actual amount of CLA contained in DecaSlim is unknown it is impossible to say if it will have effect or not. However, given the fact that there are 9 other ingredients packed into each pill, it is safe to assume that you will be getting far less than the required teaspoon a day.
- Fiber - There is little argument that fiber helps one feel full for longer. However the small amount of fiber consumed before a meal when taking DecaSlim will do very little to curb your appetite or help keep you feeling full after eating. You are much better off eating foods that are rich in fiber, such as fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains.
- Blueberries, Broccoli, Spinach, Tomatoes and Resveratrol - All five of these ingredients are combined in DecaSlim because they contain antioxidants and phytonutrients that have many health benefits, but unfortunately the effects they have on weight loss is still unknown. (For more information, refer to the article "How Antioxidants Enhance Weight Loss".)
- Flaxseed – Flaxseed is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 has many health benefits, but from a weight loss perspective it helps to combat insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. Some research also suggests that consuming omega-3 helps to promote the feeling of satiety (fullness) thus helping people eat less. (For more information, refer to the article "Omega-3 Improves Insulin and Weight Loss".)
- Garlic – Garlic has a number of health benefits, such as lower cholesterol levels and improving immune function, but it has no known affect for promoting weight loss.
DecaSlim and Weight Loss – Do DecaSlim Diet Pills Work?
From reviewing the ingredients in DecaSlim diet pills it is safe to come to the same conclusion found for Orovo – these diet pills will likely make a small improvement in your overall health, but will likely not help you lose any significant weight. If you really want to reap the benefits of these “superfoods” then buy them in their natural forms and add them to your regular diet. Even the DecaSlim website states that “You would get better results eating these 10 Super Foods everyday than you will from taking my product.” Where they try to get you is telling you that these foods are really expensive and thus you will save money by taking DecaSlim. What I can tell you is that these foods aren’t that expensive to buy – in fact many of them are downright cheap, particularly if you shop at a local fruit and vegetable market. Also, if you start eating even some of these foods as part of your daily diet, chances are you will eat less unhealthy foods and you will start to see weight loss results rather quickly.
DecaSlim is also sold along with a 2-Day Fat Flusher that claims to have caused some people to lose 8 pounds in 48 hours. Any product that causes rapid weight loss such as this is not only dangerous to take, but won’t have lasting weight loss effects. Although the ingredients in the Fat Flusher are not provided it is likely that they are diuretics to make you rapidly lose water. Yes, this will result in a sudden drop in your weight, but it is only temporary and will come right back again after the two days are up. Any product that promises rapid weight loss such as this should be avoided at all costs, even if it does come “free” with your order.
