Calorease is a non-prescription product for weight loss. It is marketed as a fat binder and is a fiber-based supplement designed to aid in weight management to help users reduce fat without them having to limit themselves to a low-fat diet or having to including additional exercise into their lifestyle. It is manufactured by Soho Flordis International (SFI).
On the product label for Calorease it states that the product “binds with fat from food to reduce up to 500 calories a day.” While this is quite the claim, you might notice the “up to” that is part of the statement. This doesn’t mean that Calorease will reduce 500 calories a day. On the contrary, it might reduce as little as 1 calorie or nothing at all. 500 calories is the maximum potential and there is no proof that this maximum potential can even be achieved with Calorease.
The ingredient in Calorease (when this review was written) that supposedly helps decrease fat is FBCx (Alpha cyclodextrin). This is a soluble dietary fiber that is derived from corn starch and is believed to have the ability to complex as much as 9 times its own weight of dietary fiber.
Research on FBCx has found that it can form a stable complex with dietary fat. This, in turn, can lower the absorption and bioavailability of dietary fat. However, in spite of the clinical research that has been carried out on this fiber ingredient, it has never been clinically proven to be a weight management aid for diet pills that work.
As this is the case, regardless of what claims there may be about the effectiveness of Calorease, they are unsubstantiated. There is no guarantee that any effects this dietary supplement might have on your body or you diet, will result in measurable fat loss. Further study is required to better understand FBCx and its true benefits, or lack thereof.
As for side effects, Calorease has been linked to a few. The most common is gastrointestinal upset, including symptoms such as bloating, gas, flatulence and stomach pain.
If you do decide to take Calorease, it is important to follow the recommended dosage instructions for optimal results. It is also a good idea to first speak to your doctor prior to taking this product to make sure that it is safe for you. This is particularly important if you are pregnant, nursing, have an existing medical condition or are currently taking medications or other herbs.
