Available in a 24 or 48-hour formulas, the Miracle Diet, also known as the Hollywood 48 Hour Miracle Diet, is said to help individuals drop 5 pounds quickly by fasting with a special juice mixture containing vitamins and minerals. For a 24 or 48-hour period of time, the Miracle Diet mixture containing juices and botanical extracts is combined with water and sipped throughout the time period necessary to achieve desired results. While on the Miracle Diet, no solid foods are allowed while taking the mixture, thus making it, essentially, a fasting period.

Since there is no food consumed on the Miracle Diet, only moderate exercise is suggested until the diet is complete. The Miracle Diet is also to be consumed with at least 64 ounces of water a day, and those who smoke should subside for the time while they are on the diet.

Pros for the Miracle Diet are that because there is a lack of food, those who wish to lose a few pounds are able to do so in a short amount of time. Fasting has also been an accepted form of cleansing the body and internal system from toxins, as well as losing weight in short periods of time for decades. The Miracle Diet is also caffeine and Ephedra-free, making it a safe choice for almost everyone.

However, the cons also go hand in hand with any fasting diet, since most of the weight loss is from water and not fat. There is also no scientific proof that drinking the mixture will help with long-term weight loss, and even though it is sold as the “Miracle” Diet, designers of the plan also recommend following their 30-day Miracle Program for optimal weight loss. Due to the lack of food and calories, this diet might be hard for many to follow, and can cause weakness or lack of energy, as well as medical side effects that may include but are not limited to vitamin deficiency, dehydration if not enough liquids are consumed, anemia and so forth.

While the Miracle Diet might not be useful for losing weight in the long term, it helps individuals drop a few pounds before an event or outing. It can also be helpful for those who are looking to cleanse their body of toxins, as all periods of fasting help with that. The Miracle Diet is comprised primarily of fruit juices with vitamins and minerals, so some health educators believe that fasting with a fruit juice and taking a multi-vitamin offer the same results as solid food diets, but scientific proof of such results is currently lacking.

The Miracle Diet is found in many retail and health stores, with the 24- Hour Miracle Diet mixture costing $10.95 and the 48-Hour mixture costing $17.95. It may be cheap and economical, but not for long-term weight loss.
