Is South Beach a fad diet? I really don't know what to think about it. I mean it seems popular, but does it actually work ...and if it does, is it truly practical?

It is a fad diet, but it is one that has maintained popularity since it was first introduced. It's not a terrible diet, It does have some advantages, such as it help to curb cravings, you can lose weight pretty quickly, it does promote some healthy lifestyle changes and it's pretty easy to follow. That said this diet goes a little too far in terms of its carbs elimination. While you definitely should't have a diet high in carbs, at the same time, you don't want one that's too low in them either, as this can lead to fatigue, low energy, etc. This diet isn't really a great long-term weight loss plan and, overall, doesn't really promote an active lifestyle.
Bottom line, it's an okay diet if you're looking for fast weight loss results. That said, if you're seeking a long-term healthy lifestyle change for permanent weight management, I would recommend opting for another diet.

I totally think this is a fad diet. It's really not practical for long-term weight loss, it just limits your diet way too much. I think there are much better (and cheaper) ways to lose weight in a healthy way. In fact, I think a good idea , f you're really struggling to find a healthy, safe and practical diet for weight loss, is to consult with your doctor and ask for a referral to see a dietitian or even see a nutritionist. AN expert who understands about food, calories, nutrition, etc. can help you pick the diet that works the best for your needs, goals and lifestyle, far better than any fad diet ever could.

This is 100% a fad diet and it is not practical. I wouldn't recommend this diet to anyone really, especially when there are so many other great ones out there. Also, I am speaking from experience. I tried South Beach a few years back and it just didn't work for me. I didn't have a problem with it for the first couple of months but then I just got fed up with it. It's just not a practical long-term solution for happy and healthy weight loss IMO
