  • You likely don't need Vitamin C supplements

I just want to say that I've been hearing a lot about taking vitamin c supplements to help improve immunity. You don't need to do that. Chances are you already get more than enough vitamin c every day in your diet. Vitamin C is in a lot of things and you don't actually need a whole whack of it to be healthy. Unless your doctor says you need a vitamin C supplement, don't take it.

Yes! Thank you for posting this. I know so many people right now who are buying vitamin C supplements thinking that they're going to boost their immune systems and not get sick. We totally get enough vitamin c in our diet. Lots of the food we eat either naturally contain it or it's been fortified with it. On top of that, we tend to get way more than we actually need. When you get too much vitamin C you can end up with the scoots and other unpleasant digestive side effects. More isn't always good.

Unless your doctor says you need a Vitamin C supplement I would also suggest avoid taking one as well as any other supplement that is supposed to boost immunity. Chances are you don't need them. You may be doing more harm then good by adding more things to your body that it really doesn't need. Drink lots of water, get proper rest, exercise and eat well if you're that worried about your health. If you don't do these things, taking supplements isn't going to help you much anyway.

Exactly. We all need to pay a little more attention to all the foods we're eating (junk included) and find out what nutrition is in them. Even stuff that contains a lot of bad fats and that is something you should avoid eating (cookies, cakes, chips and other treats) can still contain certain vitamins or minerals. This doesn't mean they're a great source of them but they do still count as a source. Chances are if you tallied up all the vitamin C you're getting in a day, you likely are already ingesting more than you need. Don't just buy into hype, take a look at what you're actually putting in your body. You might find it's a lot easier to make the right dietary changes or ask the right dietary questions when you know what you're consuming.

I think it's important that we focus on other vitamins and minerals that are harder for us to get like Vitamin D and zinc. I agree that when it comes to supplements, it is important to think about what we are not getting in our diet. This requires looking at the foods you eat and seeing what nutrition they bring you and then figuring out if you can find a way to get the vitamins ad minerals you may be missing naturally into your diet. If you can't, that when supplements should be considered. :)

Exactly. Also, if you are really curious about what you should be doing to improve your immunity, find out what medical professionals have been saying about how you can stay as healthy as possible during the COVID-19 crisis or during any flu season.
