  • Exercise for 300 minutes a week

A new study found that those who exercise for 300 minutes a week over 6 days lost more weight compared to those who exercise only twice a week. The study found that exercising can help to remodel appetite hormones. However, to get that benefit a minimum of 3,000 calories needed to be burned a week, which is roughly about working out 6 days a week up to an hour each day or about 300 minutes a week. Of course, eating also plays a role in how much weight is lost, but it's an interesting find, especially for those of us who really believe exercising more can help with weight loss. If anyone wants to take a look at the study you can find it here: https://journals.lww.com/acsm-msse/F...uating.22.aspx

That is interesting, but isn't it common knowledge that the more you exercise the more weight you'll lose, especially when you combine it with a calorie-controlled diet? How is this news?

I was wondering the same thing. I find so many studies regarding exercise and weight loss to be very confusing. Personally, I think if you mange to get 30 minutes of good exercise in every day (like a brisk walk, jogging, dancing, swimming, etc.) that's a great start and if you can add other types of exercise like strength training and flexibility stuff, the better!

Isn't it diet that matters more to weight loss than exercise? I mean I know it's important to exercise and to build exercise habits, but I thought how much weight you lose really matters when it comes to what you eat. I thought exercise was more important for weight management?

I don't think the study is revolutionary, only that they actually conducted research to back up statements/theories people make/have about how much exercise can help with weight loss.
