Some say it's impossible to lose weight over the holidays, but it can be done. I did it last year (this year the goal is simply to not GAIN weight lol). You just need to have a good plan, and be very dedicated to your plan. Here are some tips that I had for last year, when I was losing through-out the holidays.
1. The Christmas party: always eat a healthy dinner at home before you go to the party. If you go hungry you are asking for trouble.
2. Wear tight form fitting clothes. If you are wearing something body conscious, then you are likely to eat in a body conscious manner. If you go wearing your lose fitting turkey pants, well, you get the idea.
3. If you are going to a potluck, for heavens sake prepare something healthy that's tasty that you can eat so you won't be tempted by all the other goodies.
4. At the appy table, put only 2 appies on a napkin (not a plate - it's too big) and walk away from the table. Do not return.
5. If there is a veggie tray, load up there first.
6. If you are going to have a drink, just have one or two the entire night and alternate them with waters or soda water with lemon. Also choose your drinks wisely - a gin and tonic has 155 calories for 7.5 fl oz, while the same size frozen strawberry daiquiri has a whopping 450 calories.
7. Always eat a healthy breakfast. This helps cut cravings later on.
8. Store healthy snacks at the front of your fridge and pantry, and go for them before you treat yourself to the splurge stuff.
9. Say no to all the coloured, holiday packaged candies and cakes! So what if they're red and green or blue and white — with all the homemade goodies hanging around, you don't need them.
10. Streamline your grocery shopping with lists of the ingredients you'll need for a week's worth of quick, easy meals. This way, you won't be limited to last-minute convenience and fast foods during those nights when you're dashing around.
11. Park as far away from stores and malls as you can, so you're forced to get in those extra minutes of walking.
12. On big-eating weeks, compensate for the extra food with more exercise. If you can burn what you eat you won't gain.
13. Ask for something health related for a Christmas present. I got a gym membership and running shoes last year and I used them pretty much every week!
