  • Make cut-backs one at a time

One of the hardest parts of losing weight is having to give up certain foods, namely the ones you really like. Instead of eliminating all of them at once, focus on deleting them from your diet one at a time. It's far easier to make one type of food off limits than 6 all at once. Get yourself used to not having one thing before you move on to the next. This process also shouldn't be rushed. Eliminate a new food every couple of months instead of one a week.

That's a really good idea Ron. It is actually hard enough cutting out one food, nevermind 5 or 10. Adjustment does take a long time. It's always so much easier to think that we can do something when we're not yet doing it or we've only just started. It's always the long-term that we have a hard time committing to. Well...at least for me, anyway :)

That is good advice. I find any time that I try to cut even 3 items out of my diet I start to lose my willpower and I'm ready to give up on whatever weight loss program I'm following. I love food and giving up the foods I love is ALWAYS depressing. Eliminating one at a time would still be hard, but a lot more manageable.

It really is a lot more manageable. Believe me, it still sucks, but it's always easier to make one change at a time than trying to re-write your entire lifestyle by doing a massive diet overhaul. Don't get me wrong, I know some rare individuals can do this but for someone like me, the only way I'd be motivated is my doctor would pretty much have to tell me that if I don't make massive changes all at once it would kill me!
