  • Don't multitask while you eat

Doing other things while you eat isn't a good idea and I'm guilty of it and I know I'm not alone. There's no question that the society we live in is a busy one and we all feel rushed to get as much done in a day as we can or we constantly feel like we are leaving everything for the last minute. As a result, we try to multitask as much as we can, but don't multitask while you eat, unless the second task you are performing is having a good conversation with other people - don't do it. It's important to focus on your food. This is what will prevent you from over-eating or making poor food choices. Shut off the TV, shut down your computer, turn off your phone, sit down and take 10 minutes to chilax and feed yourself.

This is good advice, the right advice, and probably the hardest advice to follow LOL

I agree with Beth...that is seriously hard advice to follow. I do try not to watch TV while I eat, but when I'm eating by myself I HAVE to do something to keep my mind occupied or I'll go insane. I'm just not the type of person who can focus on eating like its some sort of religious experience. I actually find I don't eat too quickly when I eat and read.

I can't say I entirely agree with you BigBobby. While I do agree you should sit down while you eat and not do work or watch tv to distract you from eating, at the same time, just sitting there and eating is BORING if you're by yourself. I usually read and if you have to watch something, I would recommend watching a 20 minute show, something that is long enough to allow you to eat reasonably.

Personally, aside from not walking around while you eat, I don't think it really matters what you do as long as your sitting down and not wolfing down your food. How much you eat and how fast you eat is entirely up to you and your level of willpower. I find that I eat best when I watch a short television program (between 20 - 30 minutes). I only eat what I put on my plate (I never go back for seconds) but I will refill my water and keep sipping at that if I still feel hunger when I complete my meal. Usually after I wait 10 to 20 minutes after eating, the hunger I initially felt is gone. So, I would recommend that you eat in whatever way makes you the most relaxed, try to take your time, don't eat more than what's on your plate, and be happy.
