  • Exercising with your infant

What are some great exercises that you can do with your newborn? I'm trying to come up with a list of different activities that you can do to tone while spending time with the baby.

I know that walking with a carriage is a good exercise, but I was hoping for some additional ideas that are a bit less obvious.

    Anyone know any?

sounds silly, but I found bounce-walking all over the house while humming is a fun and easy favorite

Ya I was going to say take it to the park for a walk in the stroller. Unfortunately having a baby makes it a bit tougher to get in the things that you normally do but I bet in no time she will be crawling and you will be getting exercise just running around after her all day long.

A piece of advice about going to the park with a stroller...I took my nephew and my golden retriever. Big mistake. The dog was a maniac. Pick the dog or the stroller. Not both.

Just doing your regular routine with your baby in your arms or in a carrier or sling is good for adding extra weight - therefore exercise - to everything you do, and it's good for bonding with your baby, too!

                water exercise

Your baby gets to float around all day in your womb, so why not get in on the fun with a visit to a pool? Swimming and aquaerobics are great ways to stay fit during pregnancy - the water supports the weight of your bump while you work out, taking the stress off your back and joints. The chlorine in the pool won't harm your baby - it simply keeps the pool free from bacteria.

That's a good idea when the baby is born, too. Babies take to water very naturally and they love to splash around (as they get older). Bobbing around can be very relaxing.

If you can get someone to watch the baby for a little bit, you can do the aquafit classes, too. If you go to the daytime ones, the only people taking part are senior citizens, pregnant women, and women who have recently had a baby!
