  • Easy and fun exercises

What are some easy exercises for moms after pregnancy that will help motivate them to get back into shape? My sister recently had a baby and she's quite depressed about her size but she lacks the motivation to exercise. She doesn't want to join a gym and she won't stick to at-home video exercises. Doe anyone have any suggestions?

I'd recommend aquafit or exercise that involves dance. Those are always fun. That said, I recommend trying to look for a class designed for new moms or one that is meant for beginners. Socializing and being able to relate to the people in your class may be a great way to make new friends and could be an overall good experience!

How about going for a walk with a friend? It's a good way to start exercising and she might find it more motivational if she isn't doing it by herself.

If she doesn’t feel like going out try some games that will help burn calories. Lots of consoles offer great aerobic style games that can be fun. There’s the Wii Fit and games like dance dance revolution or just dance. I know that these are old games but they’re still a lot of fun to play and they’re still good. You should be able to find them for cheap, too.

I've got to agree with Lia. This is often the easiest and the best. It gives your friend the chance to talk to you and be social and also gets you some fresh air and gets you both out and moving, which is a plus. Also, it's FREE, which may also be a comfort to your friend. In addition, if you walk, this gives her the option of going with just you, or putting the baby in a stroller and taking the baby along so she has the freedom to go whenever its good for her, etc.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions everyone. I think I might start by inviting her out for a walk. It does seem to be the option with the least amount of pressure. If that doesn't work, maybe I'll try the dance class. She does like to dance :)

Dance classes are good. You could always get together and do a fun workout video, too. The brand Beachbody has a ton of different ones, so that's always an option if she doesn't feel like going out :)
