    How would I know if I'm gaining too much weight during pregnancy? I guess, more specifically, how much weight should I expect to put on that's "baby weight". I'm kinda hoping to only gain baby weight so that when I give birth, that excess weight I was carrying around will be baby-only and out of my body.

    Essentially, you find out how much you should gain (from your doctor) which is determined by your age, size and current weight. Once you know that, if you're really worried about eating too many calories, pay attention to how many you consume. Always try to stay around this number. Don't go too far below it and try not to exceed it.

      If you're an average weight, typically you should gain between 25 - 35 pounds. If you're underweight, anywhere between 28 - 40 pounds and if you're overweight only about 15 - 25 pounds. Your doctor will provide you with all this information. You're goal (if you want to bounce back from the birth weight as fast as possible once it's all over) is to try not to gain more than you need to.
