  • How to keep the habit

    Does anyone know a good way to keep the habit of maintaining a weight loss diary?

    I know it's an effective technique, but I can't generally keep it up for more than a week. It just doesn't seem to be something I can keep up.

    Build it into logical parts of your day when you know you'll feel motivated. Don't just wait until the end of the night when you're tired.

      When I have a habit like that I want to keep, I make a rule for myself that I can't have [insert treat here] until I've done the task. It could be watching tv, or eating dessert (a light one if I'm dieting). Whatever it is, I have to do the task first, then the reward.

        carry it with you everywhere you go so it's not inconvenient

          Use the reward system. Instead of eating and then recording it all down, don't allow yourself to eat your meal or your snack until you've recorded it first! That way, you know you'll do it, for sure.

            There's another thread on this forum that talks about a new armband that pretty much acts as a weight loss diary but that is digital and you wear it all the time. A study showed that it's very effective. Maybe technology is the trick.

            I know that I find things like calendars, etc, a lot easier to maintain when they're on my computer or my phone.
