A food diary is an extremely useful tool when trying to lose weight. To learn how to keep an effective food diary and be able to assign calorie values to the foods you eat, try the Weight Watchers points system. It's very easy to follow, and a proper food diary really opens your eyes to the amount of food you actually eat in a day. In the beginning yes it is a bit of a pain to write everything down, but you will soon get the hang of it and eventually you will have memorized most of the foods you eat regularly and their points (calorie) values so you will automatically know which foods to avoid, and which foods to gravitate toward.

Weight Watchers really has come a long way over the last few years. I used their program along with my wife about ten years ago and while she kept losing weight, I seemed to be on a permanent plateau. No matter what I did, I barely dropped any weight. I was starving! It looks like that’s no longer the case. Every time I talk to someone who uses it, they have great things to say. Kudos to them!
