  • Counting calories

Well, it might sound boring but this is the way I lose weight. I keep a food diary, like the one here (http://www.weight-loss-center.net/diet_diary.html) on a pad of paper and I eat between 1200 and 1500 calories per day. I also try not to eat too high of carb content but don't consider myself a low carber. I allow myself to eat out once in awhile or splurge once in awhile so I don't feel so darned deprived and give up or give in. This seems to work for me. I've lost weight before but put it back on. This time I am working hard at keeping it off and sticking to the food diary plan I have and am vowing to stick to the maintainance. I really want to lose and keep it off this time.

    Re: Counting calories

Keeping track of everything you eat makes dieting way easier, at least for me.

You really become aware of what you are eating and more importantly how many calories you are consuming.

I think keeping a food diary should be part of every diet

      Food Diary

Don't you find it a pain having to write everything down?
I mean the first week is easy but after that no thanks!

      That's just me I guess

Hi LotstoLove. Doing something your not accustomed to is a pain in the ass. That's why it is important to like what you are doing if not love. (Hoping eventually you will love it.) It takes 15 days to make a habit a habit. So be easy on yourself and take it one day at a time. You don't have to be so harsh on yourself. I suggest keep a small notebook in your purse wherever you go and jot down the food items every after meal so you won't have trouble remembering it latter.

Honey, no pain no gain. Much too much food is a sin against our health. But if you want to lose weight, you gotta do it the hard way. Surgery and other invasive procedures are way too complicated and expensive, am I right?

it may sound tedious the first few entries but you will eventually get the hang out of it sooner or later. It helps you review your eating habits and patterns. I've been doing that for months now and it definitely helped me assess my unhealthy relationship with sweets.

Counting calories isn't really that hard once you get the hang of it. The first week or so will seem rough, but then you learn how to do it automatically

If you find counting calories to be hard, get a really good app for your smartphone. That way, you don't have to do any of the calculating yourself. Just a few taps of the screen and you've entered it in to your calculator for the day and you'll know just where you stand.
