I'm pretty sure I have a food allergy but I'm not sure what it is. My friend suggested that I start an elimination diet but I"m not sure how to do that...what foods do I eliminate? What should I be eating while I introduce foods back into my diet to determine if they're causing me problems or not? Help! I find this really confusing and frustrating!

I'd start off by eliminating all dairy, gluten and soy products and sticking to basic (locally grown) fruits and vegetables, rice, lean white meat, and fish. I'd also suggest you avoid or limit the amount of beans and legumes you eat because some people have a hard time digesting beans.
You could always ask your doctor what they recommend as well. If you are concerned about an allergy to the point that you want to be on an elimination diet, you should probably be talking to him/her anyway.

I really think you should talk to your doctor. Until the appointment though you might want to consider following a low FodMap diet. This is a diet that is followed by people who suffer from gastrointestinal problems and diseases like IBS, Chron's, Celiacs, etc. There are plenty of book and resources online about low FodMap diets.
