  • Can you have a baby after weight loss surgery?

If you get your stomach stapled or some other drastic weight loss surgery, is it still safe to have a baby after? I get that a woman's womb isn't in her gut or anything, but I'm wondering what type of effect or complications may occur if you've had a procedure like this done...especially when you suddenly need to start eating more calories, etc.

I don't see why not. I mean, the surgery has nothing to do with your reproductive organs, only your stomach. It should be fine, but this is definitely something you will need to discuss with your doctor if you are planning to become pregnant as you may have to follow a special diet, exercise or be monitored more closely should you become pregnant.

You should be able to. Definitely talk to your doctor about this and your concerns though. They may be able to provide you with some helpful tips.

That makes sense. I could see it being important to follow a specific diet because you probably need to watch what you eat in an entirely different way and if you need more calories, from where you get those calories likely matters. Thanks.

Your doctor would definitely be able to answer your questions. Also, if you have not yet had weight loss surgery, one of the questions you would likely be asked if you prove to be a canidate for the surgery is if you are planning to become pregnant. Usually they keep that sort of thing in mind when prescribing treatments.

I should hope so. I mean, if not, that would be pretty bad. That said, the one downside of doing that is probably there's a really good chance you could gain the weight back which would mean a lot of wasted money since weight loss surgeries are not the cheapest thing on the block!
