I understand that weight loss surgery is definitely a last resort because if you can lose the weight on your own, that’s sure a better idea. But at the same time, they did show in a study that teens who are exteremely obese and who have bariatric surgery can go from being diabetic (type 2) to not having diabetes anymore, to reducing their cholesterol by a lot, reducing their blood pressure, and having a lot of other health benefits. As a last resort, that sounds like a pretty effective one!

That's actually good news and it's great support for people who are facing a lot of controversy or whose family or friends are giving them difficulty and saying that they're taking the easy way out somehow. It's not easy. It's actually very very hard. So i'ts great that it comes with extra benefits, too.

It's true, but as you said, it's still a last resort. There is a huge risk involved in these surgeries. They come with a lot of potential complications. I just read in the paper about a young man dying because of complications.
