  • detoxes/cleanses are the worst!

I just want to say that ANY diet that requires you to "cleans" or "detox" for any period of time is a BAD diet and should be avoided. I don't care who recommends it - a celebrity or a doctor. That whole stupid "detoxify" your body thing by starving it of calories and going on an all liquid diet is rediculous!

First - You will mostly lose water weight - which you'll gain back
Second - fat you do lose will also come back once you start eating normally again
third - your metabolsim will be slow as dirt once you get off the cleanse because your body now has to realize it's no longer starving like it thought it was..
Fourth - your body naturally detoxifies itself! That's why you have a liver, kidneys and other organs in your body. Eating or drinking certain foods or denying yourself a certain amount of calories isn't going to make your body more "cleansed"

If you really want to cleanse your body, exercise, eat healthy foods more than you eat junk, eat the number of calories you need, drink lots of water and get sleep!

    I couldn't agree more Tiff.

There is nothing good about a cleanse. They should just call it what it is - voluntary starvation.

While I do agree with you I have to point out that if you need to drop pounds quickly or an event (even though you will gain it back), cleanses and detox diets really do work wonders. I'm not suggesting that people do them as a health kick and I certainly don't think they're good for long-term weight loss, but you can't deny that if you need to lose between 10 - 20 pounds in a week or two, these are the diets that do it.

They may be the diets that do that, but you'll end up paying for it in the long run. Plus, while you're following a diet like this you're likely to be miserable and feel hungry all the time, tired, headachey and irritable. I just think it's not worth it. Especially cause all you're teaching yourself are bad dieting habits when you should be changing your lifestyle to lose weight in a healthy way and keeping it off.
