    Low-Cholesterol Diet for Losing Weight

There are actually a lot of similarities between a diet that helps you lose weight and one that helps to lower cholesterol. Both are based on making healthier food choices and getting more exercise.

Weight Loss Center has some great information about cholesterol-lowering diets. I suggest you take a look at the following pages:

Diet to Lower Cholesterol - Cholesterol Lowering Diet
2-Day Low Cholesterol Diet Plan - Heart Health Diet Plans - Weight Loss Center
Cholesterol Lowering Diet - Heart Health Diet Plans - Weight Loss Center

I also wrote a blog post about diet changes that lower cholesterol that you can view here:

    Cholesterol Lowering Diet Changes

Basically, a cholesterol-lowering diet has you eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains. Eating these types of foods is also terrific for losing weight. A low-carb diet may not be right for you if you are trying to lower your cholesterol. Instead, focus on controlling the number of calories you eat each day and staying away from high cholesterol foods (for a good list, see the page High Cholesterol Foods - Heart Health Diet Plans - Weight Loss Center).

OK, so if I was trying to lose weight and lower cholesterol these would be the steps I take:

    1. Calculate an estimate of my daily calorie intake using the calculator at Daily Calorie Intake Calculator - Calories Needed in a Day - Calorie Calculator and subtract 500 calories from this value. This will be how many calories I can eat each day.

    2. Sign up with an online diet tracker, such as fitday.com and keep track of all foods I eat for at least a week. Not only does this help me to monitor my calorie consumption, but it also gives me a breakdown of overall nutrition. You can also keep track of your exercise program there.

    3. Buy a cookbook for low-cholesterol cooking, make a menu plan for the next week and then buy the groceries I need to make the meals. This would include food for breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks.

    4. Write out a plan for exercising for the next two weeks and do my best to stick to it. As little as 30 minutes of physical activity a day, such as walking, jogging or biking, can help lower cholesterol levels.

I really hope this helps. There is a lot of info here so just take what you need and try to apply it to your diet. Let me know if you have any other questions and I would love to know how it goes for you. Good Luck!

If you have been taking Lipitor for quite some time now, you might as well get started in maintaining your blood pressure in normal levels. don't forget to check your BP daily and avoid food that contains saturated fats. The goal of your diet is to prevent more cholesterol in plugging your blood vessels thus, avoiding any form of stroke or heart attack. Try to avoid diary products and animal fats, they are a good source of cholesterol. Furthermore, your daily intake of cholesterol should not exceed 200 mg.

You say you just started low carb. I don't think you should confuse the issue just yet. Stay on your low carb and then get tested again. You may find that your low carb will take care of your cholesterol.

My family has a big problem with high cholesterol. While mine isn't to the point where I need to worry about it too much, it's only a matter of time. I have been on a low-cal diet for a little over 2 weeks now, and my doctor has told me that if I can keep it up, I might not have to start monitoring my cholesterol.

Basically, I am trying to say what others have already said. Low cal will, more often than not, help keep your cholesterol in check.
