  • Best popular diet that's not a fad

What's a really good diet that's not a fad that's been around for a long time and is popular because it works?

Mediterranean, Flexitarian, Weight Watchers, Dukan, DASH...those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head that have received good reviews and aren't super extreme :)

Atkins and Keto are two others that I would add to tobetinytina's list. I know that they are controversial, but that doesn't mean that they don't work. Sure, they aren't for everyone, but those who do find success with them, tend to enjoy them. For me, though, I think the best diet I've ever tried and that's the most sensible for working into just about any lifestyle and any age is the Step Diet.

I have to agree. Both Atkins and Keto get a bad rep, but this doesn't mean that they don't work. They have been around for a long time, especially Atkins, and they have been proven effective when followed properly, they're just not for everyone. Other diets that have been around for a while that are fads are Jenny Craig and I think it's called the Traffic Light Diet, the diet that helps you to avoid eating certain foods by color coding them in green (great for you with few calores), yellow (good for you but more calories and should be limited) and red (not so great for you and should be limited).

Paleo, Vegan, Dukan, any low carb diet (Atkins, Keto, etc.), Zone Diet and probably Weight Watchers are the most popular.

I genuinely don't know the difference between a fad or popular diet. Couldn't you say that any diet (good or bad) is a fad? What makes one diet a fad an another not? I mean, look at Keto, sure it's a "fad" but it does potentially work and it's been around for a long time. So, what makes it more of a "fad" than "Weight Watchers" for instance.

That's exactly what I was wondering. I thought anything that is popular can be considered a "Fad". Do you mean, a diet that is popular that is a "trend"? So something that is more than just a fad?
