  • what are the best proteins

I’m a big fan of diets that let you eat carbs, but that have you scale them back a bit in favor of lean proteins. What I’d like to know is what are the best lean proteins. I mean really good and complete ones. I know beans are high in protein and low in calories but I think that their proteins aren’t as good as meat based ones, if I’m not wrong.

Any advice about the best choices?

I personally like turkey. If you eat turkey breast then you're getting lots of protein but not much fat. Fortunately, it's still high in flavor. I struggle with too much chicken breast since there really isn't too much flavor there.

Tofu is really good for protein that isn't that high in calories. It's best not to eat it too often though because too much can mimic estrogen.

I've found that when I'm making my favorite recipes that traditionally call for fattier meats, then all I have to do is just cut back a lot of the fat. For example, if I have a chilli that I'd usually make with medium or lean ground beef and I am now using extra lean ground beef and things like that, then what I do is I choose the extra lean, or ground chicken or lean ground pork, and then I mix in just a little bit of the fattier meat for the flavor.

I buy a package of medium fat ground beef and then separate it into little balls that are about the size of a very big meatball. Then I freeze them in little freezer bags so that I know that's the portion of the fattier ground meat to use mixed with the extra lean stuff. It's great!

I didn't know that. Is that dangerous or bad? Does that happen in men too?

If you go to the butcher section in your grocery store, just keep your eyes open for the words "lean" or extra lean". That can help you to stay on track. Just remember that the leaner your cut of meat, the more flavor you will need to add to your recipe. Don't add more salt. It's bad for your heart health and it will cause you to be bloated and look fatter than you are. Add herbs and spices!

I think that adzuki beans are great because they're high in protein and low in fat even compared to other beans.

Don't just focus on one source of protein. Make sure that you mix things up so that you will be able to get a lot of different nutrients instead of just having the same thing every day. It does make a difference. There are lots of sources of lean protein so you should take advantage of them.
