  • Nordic Diet

I just found out that the Nordic Diet was one of the most popular diets last year. Is this diet any good? Are you really expected to eat like a Viking?

I don't think you're supposed to eat like a viking...I think it's more about eating what is native to Nordic countries like Sweden, Iceland, Denmark, Finland and Norway. I think it has a lot to do with using canola oil, eating fruits and veggies, whole grains and upping your fish/seafood intake.

That is the idea. That said there are couple of odd things about this diet. First, some of the stuff that they recommend you eat isn't actually native to Nordic countries, like some of the fruits and vegetables. Not that eating these recommended fruits and vegetables are bad, but it's like following an "Antartica diet" and one of things you're supposed to eat is an orange or a banana...fruit that would NEVER grow in that climate.

That aside, it should also be noted that the Nordic diet does ask you to eat a lot of fish and this could be expensive to procure depending on where you live. Especially when it comes to shell fish.

This sounds like a fad diet to me...

Me, too. Honestly, people, just eat a diet that is healthy, balanced and watch your calorie intake. Omit as much junk as you can and focus on eating whole foods, particularly those that are locally grown...don't worry about what they're eating in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and all the other Nordic countries, unless you actually live there....

Agreed. We spend so much time trying to eat like people who live in other parts of the world when what we really need to do is focus on eating healthy using the foods that we naturally have available to us. It's really not that hard once you cut out the junk. The hardest part is choosing to say no to all the garbage you don't need and saying yes to the stuff that is good for you.

I don't see anything wrong with trying this diet if you want to kellykatt. It looks pretty health, regardless of whether or not it will be easy to get the food you need to follow it. If it's something that you think might help you, I say go for it. :)

Thanks Penny! I've did a big more research into it and I do get what everyone else is saying about the diet, but overall it looks pretty healthy to me so I might give it a go and see how complicated it is to follow. :)
