  • Diet Pills are good or bad for you???

In short, yes, most diet pills are bad for you. Even though some may not be harmful, supplements and over-the-counter (OTC) weight-loss remedies that tout a quick fix usually don’t work — if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Many OTC diet pills are intended for obese adults, and are not recommended for anyone under 18. Among the many reasons why diet pills aren’t a good idea are the horrible side effects, which include gas (farting), oily discharge, and diarrhea — just to name a few.

On the other end of the diet pill spectrum are herbs and supplements. What separates these diet pills from the rest is that they are not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are not held to the same standards as prescription and OTC medicines. These products may claim you can shed pounds without diet or exercise, but the bottom line is that their effectiveness is questionable at best, and side effects can be as serious as those seen with prescription and OTC drugs, ranging from bloating and diarrhea to serious heart problems.

If you think you’re overweight, talk to your doctor about safe and effective ways to lose weight. The best way to attack a weight problem is through lifestyle changes like choosing healthy foods, eating smaller portions, and getting off the couch and starting an exercise routine.

Diet pills helped me loose a lot of weight and gain control over my life and my health. I was slightly diabetic and had high blood pressure all at the age of 20. My blood pressure is now within normal range and so is my blood sugar. I think the good definitely outweighs the bad. There are so many health risks related to being overweight and if diet pills can help you control your self and loose weight and reduce those risks then I for one think they are worth taking.

      My point of view

For me, I would prefer not to use diet pills and I didn't say that is bad. It still depends on the dosage and on the person who using diet pills. Some of the diet pills are harmful because of the chemicals. Especially if you will buy those fake ones.

I guess whether or not diet pills are good for you is a matter of "does the end justify the means". If you are suffering from high blood pressure and cholesterol, you feel depressed, you are at risk of diabetes, and you don't like the way you look, but you can't seem to get the weight off, then a short term use of a diet pill could be considered healthy if it helps you to learn how to eat a nutritious diet and exercise every day, while bringing your weight down so that you don't have to be on blood pressure and cholesterol meds, your blood glucose levels drop, and you fight depression more naturally. :)

Overall, I'd say that most diet pills probably aren't good for you. Especially the very strong ones like the prescription ones or, even worse, the ones with sketchy ingredients like ma huang, bitter orange, ephedra, etc. You can say the same kind of thing about sleeping pills. Not really great for you. They can cause dependency etc etc...

But I do agree with CuJo1992, though. If you absolutely need the help that they provide, then they will be giving you a healthy body (or at least helping you to get there). If you need to do something that is slightly unhealthy so that you can be healthy for the rest of your life, that's more than justified in my books.

I think diet pills are healthy as long as you use them properly and you follow a healthy diet and exercise routine while you use them. That way, you're doing something good for your body. I don't think they're a health drug in themselves, but as long as you're not abusing them and you're using them so that they can get your weight down while eating well and staying active, there's not a lot of bad that can be said about them. You do have to choose the right diet pills. There are some specific ones that are bad for you, but there are ones that aren't hazardous and that lower your body weight safely.

This is disappointing. I just signed onto this forum because I thought it would be great for discussions and right before I got to this post, "fitnesswatcher" has already advertising here. Is there any forum that doesn't have this spamming problem anymore?

As a side note, because I actually do want to participate in this post, I think that as long as you choose the right diet pill for you, it can bring about very healthy results.
