How does white kidney bean work? Does it actually block carbs and will this actually cause weight loss?

There definitely isn't any proof that it can cause weight loss. That said, it's supposed to block starches (complex carbs) by inhibiting the production of Amylase, an enzyme that breaks down starches so they can be digested by the body. By preventing the breakdown of these carbs, the body eliminates them as waste.

Actually Jan, I've heard that it works pretty well. Yes there are risks of some side effects, but that can be said about anything. I think if it's something that you'd really like to try, as long as you're not allergic to it there's no harm in taking it.

I think it does work. The problem with it is that people think that they can gorge on a whole bunch of carbs and still lose weight. That's not how carb blockers or fat blockers work. Just because you're taking something that will help you to eliminate a portion of the calories you eat, this doesn't mean that you can consume whatever you want and not expect to gain weight. That's why I typically avoid taking these products because I don't want to give myself the excuse that because I'm taking a blocker I can have whatever I want without consequences....that and these pills are notorious for causing stomach discomfort and can mess with your digestive system.
