  • Diet supplement with medical research

What’s a good diet supplement that has actually been studied and has been shown to work in a large medical study that has been published in a peer reviewed journal? I don’t mean tiny preliminary studies or ones that are run by the companies themselves. I mean actual ones that doctors would take seriously. Do those diet pills exist yet?

I don’t know if there are actually any diet pills, themselves, that have been studied in really big studies that would be considered conclusive in the same way that prescription drugs are. It’s a lot harder to do that because that’s a really long and expensive process and most supplement companies don’t want to spend that kind of cash on an over the counter product that may never stand out.

So really you need to look for studies of individual ingredients or on ingredient combinations. Like caffeine has been studied a lot but it has also been studied a lot in combination with other ingredients. That’s why you see it in diet pills. Because the companies can actually quote studies that show that it has been shown to do something.

I agree. I doubt that there are actually any supplements that have prescription- level research to support them. But it’s the ingredients you need to look into.

Make sure that when you look into ingredients, you look at the side effects that were detected just as much as the positive effects.
