  • Most common stimulants used beyond caffeine

What are the most common stimulants that are used in diet pills beyond caffeine? I want to make sure that I'm not taking too many stimulants because I want to avoid jitters. Thanks. :)

Synephrine (bitter orange), PEA (phenylethylamine), Yohimbe...I think are the ones I can list off the top of my head that are stimulants but that don't contain caffeine.

I'm assuming you mean central nervous system stimulants? And I'm guessing you mean only for over the counter diet pills. Because prescription diet drugs have stimulants in them like phentermine, which isn't caffeine. I think beyond what has already been mentioned there is hordenine, octopamine and the banned ephedra/ephedrine. That said, beyond ephedra, I don't know if the other two are actually CNS stimulants. Sometimes certain OTC stimulants are claimed to be CNS stimulants, when they're not.

Honestly, I sort of only look for caffeine in diet pills. I don't like when it's combined with anything else. I feel like there are enough studies conducted on caffeine that I know how I'll react to it, especially because I already consume it in coffee. All those other stimulants...I don't know.

I didn't know any of that. Thanks for shedding some light on it. Also, thanks for mentioning those others tammybear!

I agree with you anne. I'm only really comfortable with taking caffeine as a stimulant and want to avoid those that have more than that. It's why I asked the question, because I genuinely don't know what is and what isn't a stimulant. All I know is that a lot of manufacturer's who make fat burners and energy boosters tend to use a lot of them.

Even caffeine can be scary, because the caffeine they use in diet supplements is the powder form, so it's a much bigger burst of caffeine all at once verses drinking coffee, for example. I have a hard time trusting diet pill products with stimulants in them.
