  • Manuka honey

Is this still a thing in diet pills? I never understood why it was promoted as something that could be beneficial for weight loss. Is it simply because it has antioxidant properties?

I think some of them have them and yes I think it's all about the antioxidant benefits. That being said, I recently read that you really only get benefits from unpasteurized honey that come from your local bees. The reason is that these bees pollinate the plants and things that are near where you live so they provide you with more antibody benefits and things like that. Otherwise, most of the honey that you ingest is pretty much just a form of sugar without the health benefits.

Really?? I had no idea. I thought unpasteurized honey was just good for you period. I didn't know that the healthiest honey is the local stuff. I guess this does make sense though, I guess it's just like fruits and vegetables, the closer they are grow to your home, the fresher they are and the better they are for you.

But Manuka honey isn't like regular honey. At least I don't think it is...so it's not like it can be local for most of us. Are there really no health benefits if honey doesn't come from a local bee farm? Sorry, it's just, I find that to be a little hard to believe.

Honestly, in my opinion, honey is just another form of sugar. It might be better for you than refined sugar, but ultimately it's not doing any real favors for you, regardless of whether it's local or not. Manuka honey isn't going to help you with weight loss.

I also feel that honey is just another form of sugar. It is better than refined sugar, but ultimately it add flavor. I don't think it's going to be a problem if a diet pill contains honey, but at the same time I really don't think it's going to do anything for your health or weight loss. I wouldn't personally go out of my way for it. Also, Manuka honey sounds like a fad ingredient to me, just like raspberry ketone, garcinia cambogia, etc.

Wow! That's a lot of opinions about honey lol! I didn't know that local unpasturized honey was better for you than other honeys either, but I agree with char I don't think Manuka honey is like regular honey, so maybe it's different?

That said, I do agree with you brightstar . I don't think I'd go out of my way for it and it does sound kinda 'fad-ish". Plus, even if it's a good antioxidant, I don't see how antioxidants help with weight loss. I mean, I know they would be good for health, but I don't get their benefits otherwise.
