Isn't south beach a meal-based diet? I mean, don't you have to buy the food prescribed for the plan? I'm pretty sure Atkins you just follow the guidelines but you make your own food. Also, I think Atkins is more about reducing carbs. Isn't south bean more of a low-cal diet?

Amazingly, the structure of the two diets are actually quite similar. They both require the dieter to undergo a restrictive phase for about two weeks. Both diets are also designed for dieters to find the amount of carbs that work best for them and they also differentiate between different carb sources. That said, in many ways they are also different primarily when its comes to fats. While both encourage dieters to avoid trans fats, South Beach advises reducing the amount of saturated fat eaten and focuses more on monosaturated fat and omega 3's. Atkins advises on eating a variety of fats, emphasizing balance and placing focus on better fats, such as Omega 3's and monosaturated.
I recommend checking out this site to learn more about the differences if you're really curious South Beach vs. Atkins (Diet Comparison)
