Is the South Beach diet just another name for the Mediterranean Diet? Do either of these diets have anything in common?

No, they're really not the same thing. The south beach diet is more of an actual diet program for losing weight while there is no one single Mediterranean diet and it's more of a lifestyle diet than it is specifically designed for weight loss. Weight loss happens to be one of the benefits of following the Mediterranean diet but is not necessarily the focus.

No. These diets don't really have much in common. Some of the foods that you are recommended to eat cross over, but this can be said for many diets. Just so you don't confuse yourself, it's best to not think of these two diets as the same thing. I think they only thing they really have in common is that they remind you of a warm and beautiful place hahaha.

The South Beach diet encourages dieters to eat a high-fiber and low-glycemic carbohydrates. Lean proteins and unsaturated fats are also emphasized. it is low in carbs and high in protein and healthy fats. It's not so much of a diet plan as it is a lifestlyle. In this way it is similar to the Mediterranean diet, which also isn't really a weight loss plan, but a healthy way to eat that can help result in weight loss because you are naturally eating better and ingesting fewer calories by following the diet. That said, no, the South Beach Diet and Mediterranean diet are not similar. They are quite different. Personally, I like the Mediterranean one better.
