  • Is auriculotherapy good for weight loss

I came across these ear seed kits for weight loss the other day and thought it was really bogus when I first saw it...because how in the world is taping a small seed to your outer ear supposed to help suppress your appetite and increase your metabolism? But then I read more about it and it turns out it's a type of auriculotherapy, which is like ear accupressure and apparently it's been used for years for treating a bunch of health conditions. Does anyone know more about this type of therapy and if it actually works?

Some people think it works. Essentially, it's accupressure for the ear. Personally, I think it's a load of hooey. I don't think sticking a seed on your ear is going to help you lose weight. But I guess that's the whole point to those ancient medicines...it's sort of what you believe, like a mind over matter technique. I mean, if you think it will work and it helps you than go for it. The point is to lose weight and the objective is to find what works for you.

I don't know how well the seed will work but I've heard that this therapy can be very good for weight loss. Well, at least it's good for health. I have a friend who swears by accupressure!

okay so what I'm understanding so far is that accupressure may actually work for some people for weight loss but the seed is something else altogether. If the seed doesn't work then, how would you stimulate this part of your ear for weight loss? Accupressure isn't another word for accupuncture is it?

No. They are two different practices. Accupressure uses fingers or other devices to access pressure points to release chi. Accupuncture uses those thin tiny needles to do it.

With any of these therapies I feel like whether or not it works for you depends entirely on your beliefs. Sorry, but from a scientific perspective I think it's a load of bull.

Have you ever tried any of these therapies though? Maybe they'll work for you whether you believe in it or not.

I think it actually works great for weight loss and I recommend people give it a try. It's not going to hurt you, right?
