I've thought long and hard about starting a keto diet and I think I'm going to do it. Anyone else doing keto? While I know technically if you're going to start a diet there's no time like the present, what I was wondering is if there is an ideal time to start it. Like, since we're into the holiday season, would it be better to wait until the New Year?

Although I genuinely feel like there is no time like the present to start something you want to do, especially when it comes to weight loss or dieting, in this particular case I do think it would be smarter to wait until the New Year. If you start the diet now, you might make things hard or confusing if you're going to be a guest at someone's place for dinner. Moreover, you are likely to cave and eat foods you shouldn't because, well, 'tis the season. Definitely wait for this one.

Definitely better to start when things are normal. That said, if you do find you can't keep up with this plan, don't feel bad. Most people can't keep up with it for the long term because it's just so restrictive and will require you to give up foods you like to eat, and not just junk foods either, but even some fruits and vegetables.

Never lol. I don' t think there is a good time to start this diet. It is a fad and those who go on it don't stay on it for long. It really messes up your body, and there are no studies in regard to its long term effectiveness for weight loss. Keto was created to help people with epilepsy to help prevent seizures. Just because weight loss is a side effect of a diet, this doesn't mean that the diet is ideal for weight management. I mean, think about drugs...taking heroine or crack often results in weight loss...but it's not a practical weight loss regimen. I'm not saying keto is as bad as doing that stuff obviously, but it's the same kind of principle. With weight loss it's not just about getting results, it's the process of getting those results and whether or not its healthy and safe for your body, is practical for your lifestyle and can be adopted for the long term. Keto isn't it and there is no clinical proof to state otherwise.

I'm at the point where I really need to see a lot of weight loss and I also need to follow something that is strict. If I am left to my own devices...I just gain weight. Wish me luck!
