I've heard that when you follow atkins you drastically lower your carbs and up your protein and that people tend to eat a lot more meat. Wouldn't eating more red meat be bad for your heart? I mean, wouldn't that cause blood pressure and cholesterol to rise?

That's a good question. There have been some doctors who say that it is. I think a study was done a few years back that found that it increased cholesterol levels, but I don't know what there findings were based on. Personally, I don't think Atkins will do much harm for the short term, but then again, I'm not a doctor

I don't think so. If it was, I'm sure we would have heard about that by now. I mean, Atkins has been around for years. Usually when something carries a huge health risk it tends to be all over the news and stuff. I haven't heard anything about that.

I agree with Cujo. I don't think it's bad for you either. It would be all over the news if it was that dangerous. Mind you, it could be that the diet is dangerous for some people with certain medical conditions. Therefore, if you're thinking about doing Atkins, maybe run your idea by your doc to make sure that it's safe for you.
