  • Is Atkins disproved?

Does science still think that Atkins is good for weight loss? I am under the impression that it has been shown to be unhealthy and bad for maintenance, but am I right?

I don't think that science disproved it. I think that there are a lot of studies that go against what it stands for because it has been shown that the type of weight loss that you can get from a diet like that is only short term, but I think that it does work over that short period of time.

I would like to correct my last post. I just finished reading something very interesting today. The body needs carbs to burn fats. So if you reduce your carbs too much, it hinders your fat burning. Something to think about if you're considering cutting carbs for your diet.

Wow that's interesting to know. SO much of the dieting world is still focused on hacking back carbs as far as possible but that's really bad if carbs are actually needed for fat burning! I wish that there was some way of knowing what dieting techniques are actually the right ones. Every diet talks as though science is on its side, whether that's true or not.

Yikes, the last two diets I've done were really off track. They allowed almost no carbs. I feel like a moron now!

No diet of extremes should be considered appropriate or healthy. By balancing your diet in a very healthy way, you'll naturally lose weight and then you don't have to do anything foolish like slash the majority of carbs from your diet. It will also help you keep off the weight that is lost.
