  • Does anyone recommend this anymore?

The Atkins diet seems so....late 90's and early 2000's...do people still benefit from this diet or is it truly just a past fad that should be left, well, in the past?

Personally, I think it's a diet - just like keto - that should be left out of people's diets. It's not that these diets are necessarily bad for you or that following them won't lead to weight loss....but they're REALLY unrealistic over the long-term and once you get off them you can really pack back on the pounds. Any diet that requires you to go overboard in eliminating one type of food group really isn't idea for the average healthy individual. It's a completely different ball game if you're following a strict diet for medical reasons but if you just want to lose weight, there are way better diets out there that you should consider looking into.

So essentially you agree that it should be left in the past lol. The diet does look a little antiquated. Maybe if it was updated it would be better. That said, I know everyone is obsessed with keto right now...it's all I hear about, but honestly it just looks like a new age Atkins to me. Plus, isn't this diet meant for people who have diabetes? The keto diet, I mean.

Yes, Keto can help with diabetes. Personally, I think Keto is just as good for you as Atkins, meaning it's not good for you at all. I don't feel that either one of these diets should be recommended for weight loss. Just because something can cause you to lose weight and lose weight quickly, doesn't mean that it's healthy for you.

Actually, I recently found out that the original ketogenic diet was made for people with epilepsy to reduce seizures...its' not about diabetes at all LOL. The more I've read about keto the more silly it sounds. I mean, yes, it clearly leads to weight loss, but I don't think it's sensible to follow a diet that was originally designed for a medical condition that has nothing to do with weight loss...

You're right. It's really important to find out where diets originated and what they were initially designed for. Personally, I don't think Keto is practical or safe for long-term weight loss and I can't wait for the day that it's no longer a fad.

I feel like Atkins was an early 2000's fad that never quite came back once it lost it's popularity. I'm sure eventually it will be reimagined and become a fad again, but just like diets like keto, etc. it's too restrictive to be healthy or realistic.
