Why is this diet still around? Wasn't it proven to be bad for your health since it essentially eliminates all carbs and essentially requires you to eat too much fat? So, you do lose weight, but it comes at a cost. Am I wrong about this?

Isn't Atkins bad because you eat too much fat and meat on this diet?

it's not bad because of that, it's bad because it's not really balanced. It gives carbs a bad name, and honestly it's a good idea to have some carbs in your diet. I don't think Atkins is a great long-term plan either. You will see results pretty quickly when you follow it, but it just isn't a practical way to live your life.

Honestly, the diet isn't the best for you because it's too high in protein and too low in carbs. People like it because it leads to short-term weight loss that they can see. That said, no one really knows what this diet would do to your health over the long term. The trouble with Atkins is that it is very low in fiber, and a diet that is high in fiber is what is really good for you. If you really want to lose weight and be healthy at the same time, this really isn't the best diet. I would recommend you eat more plant-based foods to boost your fiber.

Thank you, Maggie, this is very helpful. I always knew that Atkins wasn't the best for you but I could never really understand way. There's so much misinformation about it.

I honestly think Atkins isn't great for you because it doesn't promote a balanced diet. Any diet that tells you to eat way more of one thing and way less of another (unless the way more is fruits and vegetables and the other is junk food), doesn't sound like a good plan for health or real long-term weight loss to me.
