  • Don't want Christmas to ruin my progress

I've been doing really well with my diet over the past couple months (even made it through Thanksgiving!) That said, Christmas is my favorite food time of the year and I'm really worried that I won't be able to keep up my awesome track record. Do anyone have any tips on how I can keep up with my goals without giving into temptation? What are some things that you guys do?

    Here's what I do:

I stick to portion control as much as I can
I avoid getting "seconds" of anything at all possible
If I have a drink, I chase it with a full glass of water
I eat as slowly as I can
I don't stop exercising. I always take a walk every day, no matter the day

    Hopefully these will help!

Those are great tips ffviifan. The only thing I would add is to make sure you get sleep and try to keep your eating schedule the same as much as possible. The less you upset your normal eating schedule/routine, the easier time you will have at keeping your weight, etc. under control.

Couldn't agree more with all the suggestions. Essentially, it all boils down to willpower. You know what plan you have to follow to lose weight and keep it off...you have to keep following it, no matter what the season. Sure, you might indulge a bit and gain a few pounds, but there is a big difference between gaining a few pounds that you can easily lose when things go back to normal and gaining 10 - 20 pounds...

It won't ruin your progress if you don't want it to. It's up to you to make the right choices! Easier said than done, I know, but that's usually the case when you're faced with a challenge. It's never knowing what you need to do. You already possess the knowledge. It's the journey and the follow-through that are the real struggle.

Still, all the best and I hope you have a great Christmas and you enjoy yourself, whether you stick to your progress or not. :)

How's it going Lia? Have you managed to stay on track? Either way, I hope you enjoyed a nice Christmas!

Thanks bruceH! I actually had a pretty good Christmas and I managed to be kind of good lol. I definitely ate more than I should but I didn't go tooo crazy, and I"ve made it a point to go out for walks every day, which has helped. I also made a concerted effort to watch my alcohol intake, so I'm proud of that, too. All in all, could have been worse lol...now to make it through New Year LOL. Happy New Year to you and everyone else on the forum!

Happy New Year! Glad to hear that you did pretty good throughout Christmas. Wish I could say the same, but I definitely exceeded my limits in terms of calories, sugar and all this bad! I totally paid for it because I don't feel great and I've definitely packed on the pounds, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to get back into the swing of things now that everything will be going back to normal for me tomorrow. :)
