  • Goal setting

I work better with smaller goals instead of one big one, so whiel I do have a final weight loss goal, I try to break it down into smaller more achievable amounts.

How much should I be expecting to lose in 1 month and still be considered healthy without being too slow or fast?

My doctor told me that for my diet, I should expect to lose 1-2 pounds per week in order to stay healthy and not lose weight too slow or fast. So if you are around the same size as me, you should probably set a goal of 8 pounds per month.

I think everyone is different. 1 to 2 pounds per week is likely healthy but you might be able to try for more. Ask your doctor.

That's exactly what I mean, Mike. I know that people who are heavier can lose weight slightly faster and still be in the "healthy" zone. But it really does depend on your current weight and other medical factors. I think that you're not supposed to let your weight plummet too fast if you have high blood pressure, for example.

Keep your goals in places where you can see them so that you remind yourself a lot.

Post-its are great for this. I have them on my fridge, mirror, and even in my car (to remind me that I should walk haha)

I agree, but if your friends are like mine, prepare to get teased

A little teasing is good. It's good to laugh at yourself. Plus, laughing helps to burn calories

That's actually a good piece of advice. Don't take yourself too seriously when you're dieting or you'll only get frustrated and give up. Give yourself a break and laugh at how lame you can be on occasion.
