  • Tips to be your own inspiration

I'm the kind of person who is inspired by others. I find it easier to work hard if I'm helping someone out or I can't let them down, etc. This drives me forward to complete my goal because I don't want to break a promise. While that's well in good for some things in my life, I've come to realize that when it comes to my health and my weight, I'm the one who needs to be my motivation. Because I have to lose weight and live a better life for myself before I do it for anyone else.

With that in mind, I wanted to create this post as tips that we can leave for others and ourselves to help us find personal motivation from within.

I'll start: Set goals that are of interest to you and are not based on what someone else thinks will work for you. You've got to love your weight loss journey and stop thinking of it as a chore. You don't need to justify your motivation to anyone. What works for you, works for you and that's what matters. No one else's opinion counts!

Thanks for sharing this christysmiles :)

    Here's my tip:

If a goal doesn't seem to be working, re-work it immediately. Don't be afraid to make changes. Change doesn't make you a failure. Keep trying until you find what works for you. There is no competition. Take the time you need.

      My tip:

It's okay if you fail. What's important is that you keep trying and learn from your mistakes. Eventually you'll find what works for you.

        My tip:

Have patience and watch what you eat. Weight loss doesn't happen overnight. And you're likely not going to reach your goal in a month. Take it slow and steady and track what you eat, always. Only you have control over what you put in your body.

          my tip:

Stay away from diets that provide short-term results. A diet that works fast but is ultimately ineffective will make you feel like you've emotionally lost more than you gained and physically feel like you gained more than you lost. This is a bad combo. Choose a diet that works with your lifestyle, not someone else's lifestyle but your own.

            My tip:

Don’t let someone bully or manipulate you into eating something you don’t want or that you’re trying to avoid. Let them know they can eat what they want and you won’t judge, but you’d prefer it if they showed you the same courtesy and respect you when you say “no” the first time. Don’t ever feel bad when you make decisions that only affect you directly. It’s your right to put whatever you want into your body.

Really good advice, Beth! I've actually had a friends that tried to bully me into eating something I'm trying to avoid, just so they don't feel bad for eating it themselves. I don't think they actually mean to be bullies, but their own insecurities or lack of understanding if they've never been on a diet can make them put on the pressure. It's always best to just keep saying "no". Eventually they'll get the hint and just stop asking.
