  • Have a goal

I find the best motivation is to have a goal. For instance, if you lose one pound in a week you can reward yourself with something you want. I try to make these things not food related, but like a trip, an activity, buying something material you want, etc. This has been really helping me stick to my weight loss. What goals motivate you?

I agree! Goals totally work. I also agree that not having a food goal is a great idea. I usually make mine about clothing or buying something that I want. That said, if you do make it about purchasing stuff, it's important that you have a budget for it...I mean if you start losing a lot of weight, that's a lot of buying LOL

So true! You should go broke by treating yourself LOL. Try to mix up the way you treat yourself so it's not always about buying things or buying material items. Maybe it's watching a favorite show or movie, or starting a new craft, etc. Be creative and think about what it is that you really like.

LOL! You're right. This is a really good idea, to treat yourself, I mean, but I can see how that could also easily backfire if you're not careful. Maybe only have rewards for serious milestones and not just losing 1 pound a week lol

I think having a goal is great, too. I don't make mine about food or buying something though, cause I've done that in the past and that really does backfire! I make my goals about experiences. That way, they range in price and they are sometimes free. I have a budget for them, too, to make sure I don't go overboard. In fact, planning the next experience as I'm working toward my goal is awesome motivation!

Goals are definitely smart. Especially when you add tools to hold yourself accountable to reaching those goals, such as weighing yourself regularly, using a calorie, step and fitness tracking tools, keeping a diary, etc. When you play an active role in your weight loss plan you are more likely to see it through.
