  • Force yourself

The best motivation for me is to simply not give myself a choice. So when I want to eat my favorite meals, I need to go for a walk, for example.

I keep a lot of dry and frozen products in the house, but I never keep the fresh ingredients for my favorite meals. That means that I have to go to the grocery store to get them. I force myself to walk to the grocery store since it’s only a 10 minute walk away. So if I walk there, walk around the store, and walk back, then I get 20-30 minutes of walking exercise (20 minutes of which is brisk).

I especially like the fact that there is a gym in the same plazas my supermarket. I love that the people in the window are struggling away on their machines while I’m getting free, fresh air just by walking to the store.

You're right. If you don't give yourself the choice, then you will get the job done because there is no alternative. I also find that if I walk to the supermarket, I'm feeling so proud of myself that I buy healthier food so I'll keep up the good work (though I'm not always thrilled about that when I feel like a snack haha).

Once you get in the habit of doing these things, you're not even forcing yourself anymore. You won't think twice. It's just how you do it.

another trick along this line is to use a small glass when you're relaxing. So every time you need a refill of your beverage, you have to get up to get it!

That's a good trick. Putting things just out of reach can help you to get up more. I tried doing that with the tv remote when I realized that I don't know how to change the channel on my tv set haha. I had to use the remote after all.

What a great idea you have there. There is not a grocery store in my town though...I wish that there was.
