  • Put yourself first

When it comes to dieting you need to focus on putting yourself first. This means doing what's right for you, regardless of what other people might think or believe. This sort of thinking reminds me of an anonymous quote I really like "I may not always be perfect but I'm always me." Those are great words to live by and great words to remember when you're dieting. You don't need to be perfect. You just need to be yourself and be good to yourself.

You're right about that Madscientist. I couldn't agree with you more and I"m glad that you said this because more people need to hear that. We do need to spend more time focusing on ourselves and what is good for us when it comes to weight loss. We need to stop caring so much about what other people think or what they think is best. We'll never get ahead by living by someone else's standards. Do what's right for you!

Exactly Tiff! When we live by the standards of others we tend to judge ourselves based on their actions and our failures to not be like them. This is discouraging and upsetting. Weight loss is a very personal matter and only the person who is going through it can know what does and does not work for them. We need to challenge ourselves, but the challenge needs to be something we feel we can achieve and feel positive about!

That is good advice but that is a lot easier said than done. I've tried putting myself first but I've got family and it's not so easy to beat to my own drum when I have other mouths to feed and other responsibilities that make it hard for me to take time to myself for exercising, etc. Usually when I've got free time I'm so tired I just want to veg out in front of the TV and eat comfort foods that make me happy. I know that's not the way to be, but that's kind-of a reality for a lot of people.
