  • It's all about you

Dieting, getting healthy and losing weight all have one thing in common - they're all about you! It's about you putting yourself first. It's about the choices you make. It's about what you can and cannot handle. It's about figuring out what does and doesn't work for you. Your success, your failure, your everything is all up to you. People may influence you with advice, but ultimately, you are the one calling the shots. Never forget this. Always follow what makes sense to you. Do what works for you. Follow the diets and exercise that work for you. Don't worry about what other people are doing, are thinking or saying. If you're doing something that makes you happy and that works for you, that's all that matters.

Good advice. What you think about your health and how you live really is up to you and only you. Kinda like that saying "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink"..."someone can provide you with all the weight loss advice in the world, but it's up to you to take it."

Exactly. We always want to look to someone else for advice as if they are going to solve our biggest problem...having commitment and consistent follow-through.

I agree that it is an individual thing. That said, being someone who has low self-confidence and who looks to others for reassurance a lot, it can be really difficult not to take advice, especially if I am feeling judged or if I feel like I'm failing with my progress and I need some exterior motivation. I don' think taking advice or asking for help or even doing what someone else recommends is so bad.

I agree that it's not always a bad thing. I think what Speeddemon is getting at is that you shouldn't just let others make up your mind for you. If someone has a good idea, it's not that it should be ignored, it's just that you need to make sure it's something that you actually want to do and that it realistically makes sense to your lifestyle. Essentially it's about being honest with yourself and doing what you know is right for you, regardless of whether or not this means following advice or not.
