  • Using other metrics, not before and after pictures

Before and after pictures are just frustrating. Especially now. I know other people have said this, but I'm giving up on them and am measuring using tapes and scales. It will help me to focus on progress overall instead of judging how I look. The pictures just make me focus on where i don't like myself instead of where I'm doing well. That's just not working for me.

Pictures work for me, but not for everyone, so I get it that you would say that. I think if you track lots of measurements and take some pictures, it helps overall. Especially if the pictures have some space between them, like monthly or quarterly. Too close together and it just gets you down. Put lots of time in and you'll see progress.

Good point. I didn't mean to say that pictures can never work for anyone. But for people like me, they can do more harm than good. Same with a scale really since there's a lot more to weight loss than that number. I like lots of measurements because then you're not putting all your eggs in one basket and just depending on one thing to change to see progress. With other measurements, I get a much better idea of what's going on.

I can often tell by how I feel and how my clothes fit. I know that can't be the only metrics, not by a long shot, but they're both worth considering!
