  • How fast will I lose weight

If I were to follow a vegetarian lifestyle, how quickly would I lose weight and how much weight loss could I expect to see in a month?

  • #2
That honestly depends on how much you exercise and what you eat. One of the biggest misconceptions about becoming a vegetarian is that it's easy to lose weight. This isn't necessarily true because there are still lots of foods that you can eat (including healthy ones) that are high in fats (avocado, nuts, oils, etc.) and sugars (refined carbs). That said, if you didn't go nuts with fats and carbs watched your calorie intake and you exercised regularly, you could probably drop 10 pounds in one month if you were really really dedicated.

Well, if you manage to burn more calories then you ingest, you should lose weight at a steady pace and if you work hard you should lose at least 10 pound a month.

It really doesn't matter if you follow a vegetarian diet or a non-vegetarian diet. Like any diet, you'll lose weight based on what you eat, how much you eat and how frequently you exercise. Cutting meat out of your diet doesn't automatically mean you'll lose weight. There's still plenty of foods high in good and bad fats that can make you pack on the pounds. After all, donuts, cakes and cookies are prefect vegetarian-friendly.

Hahaha that's a good point ffviifan! In fact, most of my favorite high-fat treats are vegetarian.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions people have about going vegetarian or vegan is that this will automatically lead to weight loss. It's actually really hard to make this lifestyle change and it's very very very easy to make the wrong food choices and continue to eat things that are high in fat, bad for you and will lead to weight gain.

I absolutely agree with you Jenny25! Yes, you can definitely lose weight by becoming vegan or vegetarian, but you really need to know what you're doing and this doesn't mean that you don't watch what you eat. You can still pack on fat and calories and be quite unhealthy if you don't pay attention to the foods in your body. I would really only recommend following on of these lifestyle diets if it's something you really want to do and you want to do it for reasons other than weight loss. Otherwise, just start making better choices for the diet that is most natural for you to follow.
