    diet

It is not the veg or non-veg factor, the main thing about fat-loss is balanced diet. There are some fat which are good for health like peanut butter, ghee and
cheese etc.To lose weight you must be focused at first .Then you have to create a journal. To tell about food habit there should be a balance between fat protein and carbohydrate. Moreover some exercises are also needed.

i disagree. vegies do not contain MORE CHOLESTEROL than non-vegie, in fact, its the other way around.

You will definitely lose weight when you eat vegetarian diet. However, you have to eat a "complete and balanced diet". most vegies do not contain essential amino acid/protein so you need to research on the proper way on how to prepare vegetarian diet so you will be able to sustain it long term.

if you found any sites/journals/books. let us know!

Does anyone know what balance you should have between carbs, fats, and protein? I find my diet has almost equal amounts and I find that strange. Should or should I not change this? Where can I find what the amount of each a person should eat? Thanks

Hi lpower5. Congratulations on your continued success and efforts. ( I love the new ticker too! )

If you are wondering what carb/protein/fat ratio to eat then I wrote a blog post you may find helpful here Carb Protein Fat Ratio - Weight Loss Diet

As I said in the blog, "the carb/protein/fat ratio in a healthy weight loss diet is generally about 40-50% carbs, 25-35% protein and 20-30% fats". I hope this helps. If you use fitday.com to track your calories you can also use it to determine where your daily diet falls within these ratios.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I love the fitday.com site. That is where I learned that my carbs were in the 50% range and the other to in the 20ish%. Thats when I got worried I might be consuming to many carbs. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Every person that I know that is a vegetarian (I know about 5 people off the top of my head) is skinny. Not just "average" but they are definitely thin individuals. I don't think it is coincidence. Or, it could be that those who choose not to eat meat are those types of individuals who are very concerned about what they put in their body and they stay away from sugars and other processed foods as well as meat. Based on what I see around me though, and in my opinion, if you go vegetarian, you will lose weight.

Just be sure to know what you're doing. I have a friend who went veg, but didn't supplement nutrients and he lost a lot of hair, not just weight.

i also want to express opinion about vegetarianism, I have a friend who eats vegetables, what can I say about his body constitution? inflated muscle guy, without a hint of extra weight, I would say even a little thin

I wouldn't mind being described like that in terms of my weight...maybe vegetarianism is the way to go! At least most days. I'm sure a weekly burger or chicken breast wouldn't cause too much damage if I'm good the rest of the time.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with breaking away from the "ideal" every now and again, as long as it's a treat and not an actual way of living. A little straying from the diet once per week will only motivate you instead of making you feel like your diet is a punishment.
